Chainsmith FX — Last updated: 2026-07-14

Chainsmith FX ("the app") is developed by Gene Ko. This policy explains what information the app handles and, just as importantly, what it does not.

We do not collect or transmit your data

Chainsmith FX has no backend server and includes no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. It does not track you, and it does not collect, store, or sell any personal data on our behalf. Everything the app creates — presets, scenes, your NAM model and impulse response library, and any audio you record — stays on your device, inside the app's own storage.

Microphone access

The app requests microphone/audio-interface access to process your instrument's signal in real time through your effects chain. This audio is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted anywhere. If you choose to use the app's recording feature to save a clip to your personal audio library, that recording is likewise stored only on your device (and wherever you personally choose to export or back it up to).

Signing in with Tone3000

The app can optionally connect to Tone3000, a third-party service, so you can browse and download community NAM models from inside the app. If you choose to sign in, Tone3000 authenticates you and returns an access key to the app; that key is stored locally on your device and used only to make your own requests directly to Tone3000 on your behalf. Chainsmith FX has no server of its own, so this key is never sent to, or stored by, us. Your use of Tone3000 is governed by Tone3000's own privacy policy and terms.

Third-party Audio Unit plugins

If you choose to load other developers' AUv3 plugins into your signal chain, those plugins run under their own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover. Review the privacy policy of any third-party plugin you install separately.

Backups and exports

The app lets you export a full backup of your library (presets, NAM models, impulse responses) as a single ZIP file, and export individual presets as self-contained bundles. These files are created and stored wherever you choose to save them — we have no access to them.

Children's privacy

Chainsmith FX does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all.
